STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Sweden’s industrial sector experienced a 1.5% decrease in production in June compared to the same month last year, according to official statistics. Additionally, the data showed a 0.4% drop from May when adjusted for seasonal factors. Statistics Sweden reported that the industrial Production Value Index stood at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. This June figure follows a revised 7.6% annual increase recorded in May, indicating a clear shift from the previous month’s strong growth.
Manufacturing output fell by 1.0% compared to June 2025 and declined by 0.4% from May. Mining and quarrying sectors experienced a more pronounced decrease, with a 13.8% drop year on year. Their output also shrank by 3.3% from May. Industry’s contribution to Sweden’s broader private-sector production measure accounts for 20.2%, with manufacturing making up most of this share, representing 19.4 percentage points of the total.
Despite the decline in June, industrial activity remained elevated across the second quarter. The average output from April through June increased by 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted figures showed a 4.8% rise from the previous three months. Sweden’s overall private-sector production also grew in June, rising by 0.4% from May and by 1.8% from the same month last year.

Production in services fell slightly by 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% above its June 2025 level. Construction activity increased by 2.0% month-on-month and grew 7.6% compared to a year earlier. The services index stood at 111.9, compared with 112.1 in May, while construction climbed to 94.9 from 93.0. Services constitute 67.2% of the overall production measure, with construction making up 8.4% of it.
Data from Statistics Sweden revealed a significant rise in new industrial orders during June. Total orders surged by 32.3% from May, after seasonal adjustment. They were also 29.9% higher than in June 2025 when adjusted for calendar effects. Export orders saw the largest increase, jumping 56.5% from May and 57.6% from the previous year. Domestic orders remained nearly flat month-on-month but decreased by 7.4% compared to June 2025.
Transport equipment leads export growth with notable order increases
Transport equipment recorded the most substantial rise among key industrial categories. Orders in this sector increased by 101.0% from May and by 118.2% compared to June 2025. Manufacturing orders rose by 33.2% on a monthly basis and by 31.2% year-on-year. Capital-goods orders saw a 45.5% increase from May and a 50.7% rise annually. In contrast, mining and quarrying orders declined, dropping 1.8% from the previous month and 19.0% from the same period last year.
Looking at the first half of 2026, total industrial orders were 4.0% higher than in the same period of 2025. Export orders experienced a 6.6% increase over this six-month span. It is important to note that the production and orders indicators evaluate different aspects of industrial activity. The Production Value Index measures output changes at constant prices, whereas the orders series captures new demand from domestic and international clients.
